This book, as all of Elizabeth Peters, is wonderful.
Great mystery, well written.

characters as comfy as my old house slippers
Just as I enjoyed the mysteries of Agatha Christie and Angela Lansbury's Murder She Wrote, I delve into a copy of any of Elizabeth Peters' Amelia Peabody Egyptian mysteries.
Amelia Peaboy with family in tow, gives us the most delightful stories of solving murder and mayhem in Egypt. The books are well constructed with the sights and sounds and smells aplenty of the world of Egyptology.
With every book, I look forward to reacquainting myself with Amelia and her family (Radcliffe, Ramses, Nur Misur, Abdullah, David Todros, Lia, Gargery, Fatima, Little Bird and many more; a family as huge and diverse as any one might find in fiction).
Having devoured each book as soon as I get my hands on it; after I time, I go back, read them again, and enjoy them just as much.
I cannot recommend highly enough this wonderful world of Egyptology created by Ph.D. Egyptologist Elizabeth Peters. She knows whereof she writes.
When Dr. Peters writes, you are there in Egypt, in the heat, in the dust, relishing each new page.
Buy and enjoy.
Read her books in order and watch the single Amelia Peabody become a Mrs, then a mother, collecting more friends and family with each succeeding book.
Read them out of order; then go back to fill in the delightful history of the characters.
Dr. Peters writes delectably real characters in a somewhat unreal world of Egypt from before the turn of 1900 through ensuing decades.....
If you like Miss Marple, Hercule Poirot, and Jessica Fletcher, you'll surely embrace the amazing Amelia Peabody armed with her prodigious parasol~!
