The reader will learn how Daniel was called, thoroughly trained, matured, and blessed by God for his vital role in history. From teenager to an old man at it this book's conclusion, never once did his faith in God waver. The author relays how events of Daniel's personal life are closely related to and interwoven with his prophecies. His prophetic vision magnifies the principles illustrated by his personal experiences revealing how his prophecies have deeply personal applications. This book contains two parts, the first consists of stories of the Hebrews in Babylonian captivity. The second, more directly apocalyptic in form, consists of visions predicting future events simplifying biblical prophecy and apocalyptic language and revealing a compelling record of God's wisdom and sovereignty. Daniel personally endured the kind of persecution and opposition to the worship of God that he predicts the world will experience in the end. Nebuchadnezzar's life illustrates the human tendency to go it alone, to find life in achievement, popularity, and riches. But his life also illustrates that no human being, no matter how troubled, arrogant, or abusive, is exempt from God's care and active concern. The hero of these narratives is not Daniel or Nebuchadnezzar. It is God. He is the One in control. He foils the oppressor and takes care of His own. He answers our questions, provides strength for our weaknesses, forgiveness for our shortcomings, and acceptance in our doubts, fears, and struggles. He is everything we need.
