Seller's Description:
Fair. No Jacket. Undated, c1878. Complete with frontis and map. The boards are quite shelf rubbed, edge worn and marked, particularly the spine, where the top and bottom edges are frayed, but the boards remain strong and legible. Internally, the hinges have been reinforced. There are previous owners' signatures and stamp markings on the early pages, as well as foxing, but the text remains neat, legible and complete. The binding is secure. JK.

Seller's Description:
Good. No Jacket. 466 pages (complete). A VERY rare first edition copy of this rollicking tale of hunting in Imperial South Africa. The brown cloth covered boards are scuffed, rubbed, worn to edges and corners, to the spine head and foot and seams. The stamped decoration is affable. The gilt titling is genial. The boards are sound and fit. The guttering along the frontispage is cracked. However, the security of the book is unaffected. In general the book is aging at an agreeable pace. The contents are fast, tight and certain. The front pages have age related foxing. The frontispage has a previous owner signature and a publisher's impression ("With the Publishers Compliments"). The end pages are more lightly foxed. The contents do have occasional handling and aging marks, but by far the pages are most satisfyingly healthy. They are clean, clear, certain, confident, contented. fk.
