wow! I love the picking and contrasting of the various copies/versions he found. This does not have every single fairy tale, but Jack Zipes does an incredible job of showing the progression, differences and similarities between the versions of each story. This IS the textbook for any class on the history of fairy-tale and an excellent resource on the growth/change of the spoken word through european history. I was overwhelmed by the similarities in the tales--it is fascinating how similar people are when you get down to the basics. This is one of my favorite buys and I recommend it to everyone! a must in the personal library! I would not do a "binge read" though since similar stories are grouped together. I enjoy it as a "read-a-chapter-before-I-go-to-bed" sort of book
