C.S. Lewis's dazzling allegory about heaven and hell - and the chasm fixed between them - is one of his most brilliantly imaginative tales, as he takes issue with the ideas in William Blake's 'The Marriage of Heaven and Hell'. In a dream, the narrator boards a bus on a drizzly afternoon and embarks on an incredible voyage through Heaven and Hell. He meets a host of supernatural beings far removed from his expectations, from the disgruntled, ghostly inhabitants of Hell to the angels and souls who dwell on the plains of Heaven. This powerful, exquisitely written fantasy is one of C.S. Lewis's most enduring works of fiction and a profound meditation on good and evil.

He hit this one out of the ballpark by creating a situation, making it credible and then exploring its implications. Like Screwtape, he uses humor as well as sensitivity and sensibility to redefine aspects of the afterlife. Whether one believes in one or not, the lessons for the living are clear. We are the result of our choices.

Must Read
Looking for a challenge to the traditional (not necessarily as biblical as they think) ways of speaking of heaven and hell? Then this is a book for you. It will challenge and stretch your concepts of this images that are by nature larger than our capacity to understand. This book is my favorite, not only of the great C. S. Lewis, but in gener... al. If you liked other Lewis books, you'll love this one. It is great to discuss within a group setting as well as it invites lots of conversation.

Great book
As with any CS Lewis book, this one requires a quiet room and full concentration (and in my case-rereading several passages). If gives insight as only Lewis can into things that no one can really know, and is done with humor that belies the seriousness of the topic. If you like CS Lewis you will love this book, if you have never read Lewis,... it is a nice short one to start with.
