What was, however, most frequently noticed, was his wonderful gift of prayer. In his private reading of Scripture he always made use of the original Hebrew and Greek, and urged the students of theology and young ministers to follow his example. He could converse with tolerable uency in Latin and French, and made the works of the early Fathers and of the Puritan Divines his special study.
