This view of Christ as the eternal light of the world pervades the whole of John's narrative, reaching its climax in Christ's final confrontation with the "prince of this world" through his death on the cross. Also distinctive to John's Gospel are his accounts of Christ's private conversations with the 12 disciples - discourses in which he reveals such an affinity with God that he was able to tell them, "I and the Father are One."
