Even though this was writen in 1997 it has some relevance to this reader today especially since I have had problems with belief in my faith. Mailer's book confronts everything including an imperfect faith. A man was asked if he believed. He said, Lord I believe. I need help with my disbelief. Jesus says here that this was wisdom, that a part of one's faith is not perfect and that one should continue to seek the answers of things that can not be believed. In the book there is a problem with Jesus tossing out devils and some believed that only a devil could do that. Even Jesus wondered if he had the strength to do it all the time. And Mary wanted him to quit to the point that Jesus disavowed his mother. All the major points in his adult life were included through the end of the crucifixtion. I would recommend this book to anyone.
