""The Good Land" is the third in the Texas Panhandle series, books I first read about 40 years ago. But don't worry about them being outdated, as the author created a true feel of homesteading in the 1890's. These books may remind you of the Little House series by Laura Ingalls Wilder.
15 year old Carolyn is the youngest in the Pierce family. Having moved to the plains from back East as a young child, she loves her home and her family. When the book opens, all of her siblings have moved on to their adult lives, leaving her at loose ends, so she takes on a secret life with unintended consequences. For instance, trying to help Katie's romance doesn't work out as she intended.
This was and is my least favorite book in the series. Carolyn is more immature than her two older sisters, and the setting and times (1890's) are not evoked as well. Still, The Good Land will be enjoyed as the last in the trilogy beloved by many young girls. I highly recommend this book. Just be sure to read it third.
