This is a fun set, a trio outing by pianist John Lewis, bassist Marc Johnson and guitarist Howard Collins that consistently swings, covers a variety of moods and has a strong dose of the blues. An excellent showcase for the leader's piano, the tunes are mostly standards (including Lewis' "Django" and "Concorde") and the set begins and ends with different versions of the same original (titled "...And in the Beginning" and "There Was the Blues"). One of John Lewis' better solo dates. ~ Scott Yanow, Rovi
