Paris, 1923: a young American photographer, Muriel Ross, finds herself documenting antiques that US Senator Tom Bryan has travelled to France to acquire. At first revelling in the freedom Paris affords, events take a dangerous turn when Muriel intuits that Senator Bryan is on a mission far more momentous, and potentially deadly, than a mere shopping trip. Asked to photograph an astonishing artefact - a piece of the True Cross on which, legend has it, Christ was crucified - Muriel is deeply moved. When rumours surface that a second fragment has been unearthed in Constantinople, she becomes enmeshed in a covert international alliance dedicated to authenticating this sacred relic . . . and protecting it from those who will stop at nothing to steal and discredit it. 'Bunn . . . has mastered the art of weaving history and story together in a seamless fashion. Five stars.' Dave Milbrandt, author of Chasing Deception

The Fragment is a slim little novel, under 200 pages, but it packs a powerful story. Whether you believe the True Cross still exists or not, you can't help but be moved by Muriel's journey of faith and by the sheer awe-inspiring magnitude of thousands of years of dedication to a Belief despite horrendous opposition.
Davis Bunn isn't called a master storyteller for nothing, he captures his readers with the first page and holds them captive until the last. The Fragment definitely did that for me, I even sneaked my booklight for some midnight reading and wound up finishing because I just couldn't put it down.
I truly enjoyed The Fragment. Davis Bunn has woven a tale epic adventure, suspense, and danger, but it is also a realistic story of one nation recovering from great tragedy and another nation descending into chaos. As a student of history I really appreciated the real history and even historical characters embedded within the exciting storyline.
A moving story of a young woman finding her purpose and deepening her faith. The Fragment is a loose sequel to The Pilgrim and is a thought-provoking read for Catholic and Protestant alike. Don't miss Davis Bunn's latest thrilling historical.
