Seller's Description:
Poor to Fair in None jacket. Communist Takeover of Cuba 242 pages, which includes an index. Piece broken off at the top of the spine, with about a 3/4 inch tear on either side of the binding there. Water damage with brown and white splotches on the right side of the front cover, but nowhere else on the cloth cover. In spite of this, the rest of the book is in good, readable condition. Ambassador Smith reported that the leadership of the US State Department ("The Fourth Floor") was fully aware of Fidel Castro as a hardcore Communist at least since 1948, when he (Castro) led a Communist inspired and controlled uprising in Bogota, Colombia; that they (the US State Department) were instrumental in removing Batista from power as well as installing the Communists in power in Cuba. From Ambassador Smith's book: "In a nationwide radio-television address on December 2, 1961, Fidel Castro said: 'I am a Marxist-Leninist and will be one until the day I die'. The rest of the world is 'on the way to Communism. ' He also said that he was forming a single Communist-like 'United Party of Cuba's Socialist Revolution. ' The new party would lead Cuba through Socialism to 'a people's democracy or the dictatorship of the proletariat. ' Its program will be Marxist-Leninist and adapted to conditions in Cuba. ' Then he goes on to say, 'There is no halfway between Socialism and imperialism'."
