This book consists of four sections - the canonical seasonal subdivisions: Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter - plus an introductory section, kind of an 'Ouverture' (from here the title, 'The Four Seasons Poetry Concerto'), and is the last volume in the 5-book series 'Poetry for the Four Seasons' The others being: - 'Winter Melodies' - 'Spring Songs' - 'Summer Arias' - 'Autumn Lullabies' * Music and words create the "Art of Song." For some, the senior component of that collaboration is definitely words: music is expressive and reinforces the words but for such listeners words carry the weight of meaning. Others, who see music as the senior component, probably hear in the pattern of notes and tones a non-verbal parallel between music and words: for them music absorbs the literal verbal meaning which they grasp intuitively through the music. Yet, we might accept Richard Wagner's view that song is a marriage between equals, with music being the female element and words the male. Indeed, Words and Music are often seen together, in formal and informal combinations: they seem to be related, siblings perhaps, even twins in some magical moments -certainly not identical but fraternal twins, so closely are they unified... * " What difference would it make / that I lose hope in writing poems / because trash talk on TV and foul speech / in the streets have cluttered the Paths of Poetry? / And you will answer, None at all, because / our poems will ascend to a purer realm, where cleansed / they will orbit the ancient spheres of harmony and hope, / and thus enhanced, they will descend in their full glory / into the hearing of those who most need this rescue. " (Daniel J. Brick)
