This work is indeed about the rarely covered battle of Overloon and the Mass Salient. It is written by a couple of Dutch historians who researched Dutch, German, British, and American sources for their information. It explains how the terrain, not Montgomery's over caution was the primary reason why the allies advance was so slow. It tells of some of the British armies' problems. It tells how Hitler's no withdrawal order needlessly wasted German lives. Many individual stories are related, some from diaries, some form official accounts....just about every source possible. My favorites among these stories include how a great stir was created among the British troops when an error in a communication about the approach nearing a mental hospital with 2000 mad women was transmitted as "2000 bad women." Disappointment abounded. Another good one was the difficulty American troops had understanding why the people in the towns they were liberating were cheering them so. The people were Dutch, not, as thought German.
Overall a pretty fair read if not a rare treasure.
