F I have found it convenient to call him to dis tinguish him from other members of his family, has given us in the autobiographic sketch which forms No. I of the docu ments in this volume but few details of his education, and I have not yet had access to the three small notebooks mentioned in the first volume of the Calma'ar as containing copies of verses and letters written by him in his youth 1. The? Fourteen letters addressed to him at Oxford (ii-xv), and the few items at the beginning of the accounts in XXIV, are all the documents contemporary with his Oxford life contained in the collection arranged for the purposes of the Commission.
