I am not much of a reader and so when I am in the mood I always look for short stories. I asked a friend from Europe about some reccommended reading which might suit my tastes. So I searched for this book and gave it a try. At the time, I was unaware it is the 2nd book in a triology. But I was able to follow the story quite well. Professor Igelfeld is definitely one of the most humorous characters I have read about in a long time. He is a quirky fellow who has a very dry sense of humor about his life and gets into some of the wildest predictaments. Because of his serious sense of adventure and go-getem attitude, I could not help but to fall in love with the Professor. And Alexander McCall Smith did such a great job of giving graphical images, I could literally see the silly antics and mischief this Professor got into all the time. I even took it with me to the laundromat to keep myself occupied and I was laughing so hard "seeing" the poor sausage dog's trauma that I almost fell out of my chair! Even worse, everyone in the laundromat started staring at me, and but I just could not contain myself! I will say that I am very happy I started with this book because the first book, "Irregular Portuguese Verbs" was painfully slow and lacking in much humor. But because I all ready knew the Professor, I just had to find out where he came from. But since the story really picked up by the second book, I will definitely read the last of the series called, "At the Villa of Reduced Circumstances."
