Francis Nevins has done a wonderful job in collecting and displaying a complete record of the career of Hopalong Cassidy on film. And no one could have done a better of job of portraying the character created by Clarence Mulford than William Boyd. Although this book lacks all of the historical data about Boyd's career and near demise or derailment of that career due to an erroneous picture in the newspapers, it does let you know that Willaim Boyd was a man of his word and kept his promise to Harry Sherman the producer of the series. The photographs and the information about the movies--date, cast list, director, and so forth recall a whose who of early Hollywood. They include George Gabby Hayes, Paul Fix, Chill Wills, George "Superman" Reeves, Andy Clyde, Roy Barcroft, Robert Mitchum, Victor Jory, and others. Ride the trail again, if you're old enough to appreciate western movies when western movies were the rage. Indeed, the finest of these movies are among the finest western movies made. I have a complete set on VHS. This book is a great introduction to these films.
