I read his book Stalingrad and decided to pick this one up. Even more enthralling. These two nations were trying to destroy each other and their way of life, and nearly succeeded. The murder, death and destruction was perpetrated on a colossal scale never seen before in warfare. It is hard to read as both armies take revenge on each other, and the nations caught in their wake. Beevor writes an easy to read and understand book. It is a cautionary tale of nationalism to the extreme, and the total destruction of a nation as it tried to make it work. Highly recommended for anyone interested in the second World War.
