Good. Good condition. A copy that has been read but remains intact. May contain markings such as bookplates, stamps, limited notes and highlighting, or a few light stains.
I own a copy of the French text and I can say that this is the best translation I've managed to find. This edition also has very useful annotations which are necessary for readers today. Every piece of music and myth that is mentioned has been specifically chosen and is important to understand. I really have nothing but good things to say about this book, I recommend it to everybody. Don't be fooled into thinking it's about a girl with two guys after her, it is so much deeper than that and honestly has something for everybody. Ultimately it is about the transforming power of compassion, art, and sacrifice. It is also fairly short, as rich and mysterious a text as it is. You can easily read it in a couple sittings (as is the case with most things Leroux writes). Do yourself a favor and get a hold of a good translation of this story such as this edition, you won't regret it.

Outstanding
The story is great enough, but this book gives the reader more in depth inmformation. The introduction is pretty standard with a basic history of the phantom throughout the century. It is the footnotes in this novel where the gold lies. Imformation on meaning and the actual french terms are fully explained. I finally learned what Christine's Domino custume really is. This is a great book for Phantom fans.

A Gothic Classic
The classic tale of the Phantom of the Opera, a tragic love story. The setting is Victorian Paris at the Paris Opera. For years there have been rumors flying about an Opera Ghost who lives deep beneath the opera house in the subterranian catacombs. The Phantom will remain friendly as long as he recieves his monthly salary and complimentary seats in Box 5 at all performances. The Phantom is an object of fear, but even Phantom's have hearts. New to the Opera is 16-year-old Christine Daae, the Phantom fall in love at the first moment he hears her voice. He therefore takes her under his wing and trains her to become a fine singer. She thinks her teacher is the Angel of Music, however, she is in love with a young man named Raoul. Once Christine discovers the true identity of her teacher she becomes frightened. She begs Raoul to take her way. This is overheard by the Phantom and soon his wrath is unleashed on everyone in the Paris Opera.
If you are looking for a classic gothic horror, look no further than THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. This novel is creepy and romantic all at once. A bizzarre, yet touching, love story. This novel has been the basis for several films and stage productions of the same name.
If you enjoy this book, I would also recommend checking out the cast album to Andrew Lloyd Webber's THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. Also see the many film versions!
