Over a thousand large-format pages of very small print encompass the essential details of over 9,000 films in the horror, fantasy, mystery, science fiction and film noir fields. The entries range from "Aaron's Magic Village" (1997) to "Zvenigora", a Russian movie of 1927. In view of the enormity of this undertaking, the treatment accorded each movie is understandably inconsistent. Some movies like "Street Trash" (1987) and the 65-minute serial cut-down, "The Clutching Hand" (1936), are detailed with extensive cast credits while others like the 1952 noir classic, "The Narrow Margin", have to made do with seven or eight names. There are also both odd inclusions like "The River of No Return" (1954), and exclusions (no "Tales of Manhattan")! But for a book of this stupendous size and scope, who's complaining?
