The Eagle and the Raven is a historical novel telling the life stories of two individuals prominently involved with the Texas Revolution and the April 21, 1836 Battle of San Jacinto: Sam Houston and General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna. Alternating between the two figures as the book progresses, author James Michener has written a highly readable and informative account of the significance of Houston and Santa Anna in American, Mexican, and Texan history. Maps, chronologies of each man's life, and a bibliography are included. In sum, The Eagle and the Raven is a fast read and is ideal for history teachers wanting to know more about these two fascinating historical figures.

history or biography?
What happened at the Alamo? we get more detail about Michener stage of life then the battle of Alamo but there is a good idea of the general atmosphere in Texas at this time in it's history.
