An extremely thoughtful, and thorough look at Biblical exegesis, from a top notch scholar.
Looks at what the ancient readers of the Jewish Bible had to say -- Talmudic rabbis, Greek scholars,etc -- and contrasts those views to the views of modern scholarship. Makes a good case for reading the Bible through as many different "frames" as possible, for deepest understanding. Kugel is also easy to read, and often funny, as well as insightful.
