No question that by fusing the textural ambience of old field recordings with 310's ever-present cut-and-paste aesthetic and occasional house leanings, Dirty Rope is a daring enigma; unfortunately, its wilful experimentation often comes at the sacrifice of the album's overall pace. As a result, any momentum or atmosphere established by warm, organic strums like "Pacific Gravity" or the beautifully understated "Nod" are eventually eviscerated by comparatively loping dirge such as "Me Head Is Light" or "Six Month Zazen."
