Jesse is finally settling into his new life, in a new town, with a new foster family, and trying to stay out of trouble. But then the Clarke's move into town. Honor and her mother have just arrived from Bali where her father was gruesomely killed in an ancient temple. Jesse has heard all about this new family, but they can't really be witches...can they? But when Honor arrives on the first day of school with jewellery made from real scorpions, speaks Sanskrit, and seems to have no desire to dispute the rumours of her witchhood, Jesse begins to wonder if there is any truth to the stories, especially when strange things start to happen. Someone is killing birds and painting weird symbols all over town. Jesse begins to get the feeling that he's being watched, and starts having terrible nightmares and a strange old man keeps appearing, trying to talk to Jesse, yet no one else seems to be able to see him. And, if that wasn't bad enough, Honor seems to have taken an unusually strong interest in Jesse, pulling him further into a dark and sinister world of myth and legend. Will Jesse be able to resist long enough to stop Honor and save both himself and the rest of mankind?
