There were several Babylonian places called D u r u, for this name has been preserved in that region up to the present time as a designation for "hills" (Oppert, Exped. en Mesopot. I, pp. 238 foil.). The ancient Babylonian race-table shows IV Rawl. 38 on the Obv. col. II, 9--11 alone three localities bearing this name; see Delitzsch Parad. p. 216. The name signifies "rampart" and then "fortress." 431 2. nn (plur. N irj5) viceroy, satrap; see note on 1 Kings X. 15, Vol. I, p. 175 foil. The other ranks of officers here mentioned ( 1J1071) have Persian designations.--Respecting NHU11N Noldeke remarks that this word in the form andarzgar was a title still in use under the Sasanids. See Noldeke's translation of Tabari p. 462 note. 5. The musical instruments that are here mentioned, Dirvp (xid-agig), N33D (fianfivxrj), fHnJDD (vjcczt?'jqiov) and Itodoid (ovficpcovla), are Greek, and hence their names are looked-for in vain among cuneiform documents. 29.
