Poor Robert Forester, divorced, depressed and lonely. One of the only things that cheers him up is watching sweet Jenny making her dinner through her kitchen window. Then one evening Jenny spots him peeping.... then the trouble really begins. Naive Jenny invites sorry sack Robert in, she starts to get a little too attached which angers her very jealous boyfriend. And to make matters worse Robert has a harpie of an ex-wife who loves to torment him. Jenny's boyfriend suddenly disappears and is even suspected to have been murdered. Well good luck with that Robert. You should have kept on walking by Jenny's kitchen window. As ususal Highsmith keeps it tense and dark.
