Excerpt from The Collector's Hand Book of Marks and Monograms on Pottery and Porcelain of the Renaissance and Modern Periods: Selected From His Larger Work (Seventh Edition) Entitled "Marks and Monograms on Pottery and Porcelain," With Upwards of 3000 Marks One great advantage in our little book consists in the care ful representations of the marks, which are traced in most instances from the originals; other manuals published since ours are mere copies of the marks from other works, and for the sake of uniformity reduced in size, hence their incorrect ness, while the more intricate, although equally important, are omitted. In one of these manuals the repetitions occupy 80 pages, and the Oriental marks are considered of such import ance as to fill 50 pages more; in another the Oriental marks. Are conspicuous by their absence, being altogether ignored, and no reference made to the porcelain of China or Japan.
