Hit or Miss
This was one of the first books someone gave me when I decided to go vegetarian almost seven years ago. Luckily, it was not the only book, or I might have given up and gone back to being an omnivore. As part of a collection, this book is useful. As the solo introduction to vegetarian food, I think it is inadequate. While there are several recipes from this book that have made it onto my regular meal-planning rotation, I have found that when a recipe from this book is a miss, it is REALLY a miss.
Once I was making a salad for a holiday from this book and the dressing was so wretched that I washed the entire thing in a sieve, and went out and bought a bottle of salad dressing from the grocery store. Another time one of the pizzas turned out so salty it was almost inedible. I realize that most cookbooks are a combination of great and not-so-great recipes, but when the misses are so marked, it makes me a little nervous to try anything new from the book.
