This is necessarily the case with regard to all ministerial acts, the validity of which depends upon the authority of the agent. All that is required, in such cases, in order to inspire and warrant full confidence, is attestation of authority. The validity of the act then follows of course. When an Ambassador from a Sovereign Prince has proved his mission, by the authentication of his credentials, full credence is then given to his acts. Now, the regularly, ordained ministers of an Apostolical Church are possessed of an Ambassadorial character. They are "Ambassadors for Christ." Their ordination, as ministers of such a Church, is full attestation of their being invested with that character, by virtue of the original Commission to the Apostles. It is true, the authority of the original Commission, as given to the Apostles, was confirmed by miraculous attestation. But, with their ministry, the age of miracles expired. Since then, human forms are the only channel for the transmission, and, consequently, the only means for the attestation, of authority under that Commission. But when such authority can be shewn to be regularly derived, through the forms established by the Apostles for that purpose, the attestation is complete. Every regularly ordained minister of an Apostolical Church is able, thus, to "make proof" of his " ministry;" and he is, therefore, fully empowered to make the Sacramental elements valid pledges for the benefits they are intended to convey--subject only to the conditions inseparably annexed to them, and on the performance of which their validity is made to depend.
