Excerpt from The Church Missionary Atlas: Containing an Account of the Various Countries in Which the Church Missionary Society Labours, and of Its Missionary Operations Unavoidable delays have occurred in the production of the present edition since General Lake's death, but they have at least conduced to the completeness of the work. The majority of the maps were printed off in his lifetime, and under his di rection; and of these, the following are new - Africa, Yoruba, Niger, East Africa, Palestine, Persia and Afghanistan, Western India, Tinnevelly, Travancore, Telugu country, che-kiang, fuh-kien besides which N orth-west America was extensively revised. The following new maps have been added since General Lake's death - The World (showing its religious divisions), the Route from Zanzibar to the Victoria N yanaa, the Language Map of India, Lower Bengal, the Punjab, Japan, British Columbia. In the maps of Africa and East Africa, some additions have been made upon the already printed copies, to embody more recent discoveries; but it has not been possible to make them quite perfect. The letterpress, of which General Lake wrote or drafted about two-thirds, has been completed from various sources. Special mention should be made of the valuable assistance rendered by R. N.
