Contains an index and source notes in the rear. Original brown cloth publisher's covers with black spine lettering and black & gilt cover decoration. This is a nice clean, tight and unmarked book with no interior or exterior markings, no previous owner names and no bookplates. The dust jacket is in nice serviceable condtion with the exception of a few short tears and some creasing to the top edge. There is no indication of the printing on the copyright page.; B&W & Color Illustrations; Folio 13"-23" tall; 236 pages.

A tight and quite lovely later printing of this hefty survey, handsomely signed and inscribed by the author on the front flyleaf: "For--/ Carl Tolpo--/ with every best wish & a real hope / that you will long enjoy this book / about the noted cowboy artist! / Sincerely / Harold McCracken / Cody, Wyoming / Sept. 5, 1965." Carl Tolpo (1901-76) was a noted artist best remembered for his Abraham Lincoln statuary and his Yellowstone paintings. McCracken (1894-1983) was an American author, photographer, cinematographer and producer who co-founded the Buffalo Bill Historical Center and the Whitney Museum of Western Art; as an explorer, he led a group that attempted to prove a land bridge once existed between Alaska and Siberia; his numerous books include "Beyond the Frozen Frontier" (1936) and many titles about cowboys, big game hunting and artists of the American West.
