After the relatively serious, even gloomy, atmosphere of the last two Moxy Fruvous albums, C is a breath of fresh air. Those who were attracted to the band by the quirky humor and exuberant vocal harmonies will find much to love here, though non-Canadians may find a few of the songs to be a bit obscure. Songs like "Pisco Bandito" and "Beware the Killer Tents" have the air of an inside joke, albeit set to catchy tunes and good beats. Luckily, there are a few songs that will stand up with the best of the Fruvous catalog, such as "Jared," an homage to a dedicated fan, and the hilarious "Pork Tenderloin," an Appalachian lament about the hapless victims who died while stalking pig parts. The band also addresses serious issues with humor, as in the acidly sarcastic "Guinea Pig," a beautifully harmonized indictment of genetically modified food. Though C is a short album at just over 28 minutes, it's a welcome blast of gleeful and occasionally thought-provoking humor. ~ Richard Foss, Rovi
