Decorative blue cloth boards, gilt, in heavily edge-worn (now protected) dust-jacket which has loss at its extremities. The author summarizes the history of the British submarine since their first inclusion in the Fleet and traces their technical development. He provides a detailed description of the working of a modern [1950s] submarine and a chapter on the problems and techniques of escape and salvage. The larger part of the book gives an account of the British submarine service in the Second World War.
