The old man asks, and so begins the unexpected friendship between this young man, Boomer, and a group of old guys who live in a house together on Brewster Avenue. A big beautiful house. "We're like a fraternity, or a brotherhood, or a club," Kenneth, one of the old men, explains. "Each of us have been left behind by the one we loved, we've all been widowed, and now we live together for friendship and to look out for each other. We're The Brewster Avenue Dead Man's Club," Kenneth says with a laugh, "because at any moment, any of us could be dead." No longer wanting to live with his girlfriend who cheated on him, and not having anywhere else to go, Boomer accepts the offer from the old men to stay in their basement until he gets a place of his own.
