Aberdeen will be first to admit that they're a singles band. They pay a lot of attention to crafting the perfect hook, and releases such as the Byron EP and 7" singles Toy Tambourine and Snapdragon are some of the band's finest, but that's not to say that the 2002 full-length Homesick and Happy to Be Here wasn't equally lovable. But getting back to their indie pop goodness is The Boy Has Gone Away, a delightful three-song set for old and new Aberdeen fans alike. Limited to 1,500 pressings, The Boy Has Gone Away is specially designed to mend a broken heart, for Aberdeen has never shied away from such a topic and the band nurtures it with plenty of kindness. Beth and John's warm vocals are reminiscent of early-'90s Brit-pop, and such a sound should bring smiles. The Boy Has Gone Away may hint at gloomy kind of love, but it once again reminds listeners that Aberdeen is an excellent pop band. This little gem will make you happy again. ~ MacKenzie Wilson, Rovi
