I really really wanted to like this. But I came so close to quitting about 48% of the way through. It wasn't for lack of action, there was plenty of things happening, but I couldn't really connect with the plot. I absolutely loved Nina in the first book, so I was a bit disappointed when I felt her character changed for the worst. Then the Jane Eyre riff was just too much. I've always found that a creepy story, and I just don't feel like it was done well here. I didn't see any build up to the relationship between Ramsey and Zoe, and would have been fine if no relationship had happened, since it felt too awkward.
However, the kids were absolutely precious and it made me so happy to read about their lives. Patrick and Harry were the perfect balm on all of the awkward plot lines!
