Thick octovo hardcover in fine red cloth cover, bright gilt lettering on spine, xvi, 317pp, frontispiece (tissue guard), 72 plates mostly showing golfers in action, tight and square spine/binding, pages bright, No marks, No writing, No foxing, No tears, the covers have very light rubbing of tips, else NFINE in clear and heavy mylar wrap. A solid copy, internally pristine. The author first wrote "Hints on Golf", the game's first instructional book. He played a significant part in the golf boom at the end of the 19th century, as a player he won the British Amateur Championship in 1886 and 1887.
