This series examines what life was like for people in Britain during World War II. Each title takes a different aspect of civilian life and looks at its dangers, difficulties and pleasures. Much of the story is told by eye-witness accounts. This book describes what it was like to be held as a prisoner in Britain during World War II. "Prisoners of War" describes the experience of being imprisoned in Britain, after being captured in combat, or for simply having an enemy nationality. It examines the treatment of those classified as "enemy aliens" and describes their bewilderment at being held in captivity. It looks at the way prisoners of war and internment camps were run by the British and briefly, at the desperate plight of prisoners in other parts of the world - the Far East and the Eastern Front. Finally, it describes the re-education of the German prisoners and their feelings towards the British when they were eventually released, many months after the war had ended.
