Seller's Description:
Very Good in Good jacket. Size: 8x0x11; 1998 Banque Generale du Luxembourg (Paris), 9 x 11 1/4 inches tall brown buckram cloth hardcover in publisher's unclipped dust jacket, dark brown lettering to spine, copiously illustrated with mostly full color photographs, 121 pp. The slightest amount of bumping to the upper tip of the front cover. Otherwise, a very good to near fine copy-clean, bright and unmarked-in a mildly rubbed and edgeworn dust jacket which has a two-inch edge tear to the rear cover but which is nicely preserved and displayed in a clear archival Brodart sleeve. ~SP09~ This exhibition book presents sculptures from the Nok, Sokoto and Katsina cultures of Nigeria in fascinating detail. The terra-cotta statues, which date from 600BC to 300AD, are the oldest traces of the remarkable tradition of sculpture in sub-Saharan Africa. Varying in size from four-inch miniature amulets to monumental seated and kneeling sculptures, often of kings, priests or soothsayers, the statues also display the very rich variety of headdresses, beads, necklaces and bracelets that existed within these cultures.
