This wonderful book is a chronological telling of the events in the Bible in 365 short stories that can be read in about 10 minutes. Each has a few discussion or comprehension questions at the end. The language is beautiful, engaging, and dramatic, while the content generally stays very close to scripture. It is an excellent book for children who need an introduction to the stories of the Bible and also for adults who want an overview of the sweep of Bible history. This book describes real events of importance, and some of the events were traumatic. Although Hurlbut handles these with obvious care, a few parts may be inappropriate for the very youngest or most sensitive children. Reading these aloud as a family would let a parent or other adult edit for content along the way on those few occasions where it may be needed. Be sure to get the original by Hurlbut, and not the ?updated? edition based on Hurlbut?s book with the phrase ?Read Aloud? added in large print to the cover. The language in that one has been edited to be simpler, and in the process lost the things that actually keep the interest of both children and adults. Buy the older, out-of-print version and you will get much more.
