This is February 2016: there is a bestseller about this subject flying off bookshelves. But I wanted one written before all ... this: before 9/11, before the migrants, before all of it. I wanted an historical account of this amazing period of American history, the events which led up to it, the main characters prominent at the time, and I wanted it written by a deft and objective hand. This is it: the story of how the United States intervened in the Mediterranean, put the kibosh once and for all, but good, on the pirates who for a thousand years had been robbing, pillaging, raping and enslaving anyone who strayed into the waters of the southern Mediterranean coast. This is a great book.
