Knocking on my front door dragged me from a deep heavy sleep. "Hello," I said, opening the door a crack and observing a young woman standing on my porch in a strange earth-tone jumpsuit and flowing cape. "Can I help you?" I asked sleepily. "I have something you need," she replied, extending her hand. "Who are you? What do you have for me?" I asked, feeling grumpy and suspicious. "I am from the year 544 EE," she replied with a pleasant smile, obviously expecting me to know what she was talking about. "What did you say?" I shook my head thinking something was wrong and almost closed the door. But her accent and sincere manner made me hesitate. "I have information that will revolutionize human society," she replied. "You have been chosen to bring this information to planet Earth." My laugh startled her. "Please," she stated urgently, holding out a USB drive as I closed the door. "It is what you need." "Leave it on the step," I replied, still laughing and shaking my head, and feeling sure it was a scam of some kind. "Please read it," she stated seriously, looking up at me while placing the USB drive on the porch. Halfway to the sidewalk she stopped and turned to face me. Her fingers touched a silver belt buckle and a circular door opened beside her. She looked at me, raised her right hand in farewell, then stepped through the door onto a white sandy beach with turquoise water visible on the other side. The door closed. She was gone. That is what I saw with my sleepy 2 am eyes, that is how I remember it. "It's a trick?" I thought to myself as I looked at the USB drive on the porch step. I picked it up but was afraid to put it into my computer. "Just some stupid trick," I said to myself as I threw it into a desk drawer. "Some fancy scam. What else could it be?" The USB drive sat there in my desk, ignored and forgotten, until the COVID 19 pandemic of 2020 when I had plenty of time to clean out my desk. I put the USB drive into an old computer in case it was infected. It contained only one text file, but what it revealed about the future of humanity is enlightening In the year 2070 CE humanity entered the age of Enlightened Expansion (EE). RingTech portal technology opened the universe to human occupation and the Arcadian Path united most of humanity in a common dream for the future. Miles Finerty was the first person to breathe the air of an alien world; the first person to experience the mood-altering effects of the Mind-Snakes on planet Arcadia. This experience led him to create the Arcadian Path; the philosophy that shaped civilization on most of the 122 United Worlds and led the way to a happier more fulfilling life for all people. RingTech revolutionized human society by making transportation across city, planet, or galaxy only a button click away. How could people corrupt such a tool? You could look into a neighbor's bedroom, empty a bank vault, or open a portal and dump molten magma or raw sewage directly into the President's office. RingTech was in everyone's home, office, pocket, and purse by the time that Nava met Cromen in 434 EE. These two lovers from opposite ends of society got pulled innocently into the most dangerous threat the United Worlds has ever known. Travel with them to bootleg planets Heaven and Hell, and back again as they struggle against the corrupt Orthodox Waru leaders. They only wanted to be together and have a little adventure. Will Nava and Cromen ever get home? Will the United Worlds survive? Science and technology will solve Earth's environmental problems. The human race will unite in appreciating existence together. Humans will learn to appreciate their front-row seat on the universe. Man will reach the stars. The future is coming.
