Seller's Description:
None. Fine in Near Fine jacket. A wonderful first edition detailing the scientific efforts ongoing on this fascinating region, inscribed by the author and profusely illustrated. Harry G. R. King (1921-2013) was Librarian at the Scott Polar Research Institute between 1955 and 1983; he also edited the SPRI's library catalogue, and edited a number of publications. Inscription from the author, dated June 1979. From the library of Eric Kenneth Prentice Back. Â Kenn Back was a British meteorologist with the British Antarctic survey for many years. Â He spent eight winters in the Antarctic and is a descendent of Captain George Back. In addition, he served as base commander at Halley, Faraday and Rothera stations. Â His library collection was built over decades and highlights his love of polar exploration. Â Profusely illustrated with sixty colour photographs and two hundred and fifty photographs in monochrome. In the publisher's original full cloth binding with an unclipped dust wrapper. Externally lovely. Dust wrapper is slightly sunned to the spine but otherwise in excellent condition. Internally, some offsetting from sellotape to the front endpaper, ownership bookplate to the verso and author's inscription to the half title page. Internally firmly bound, pages are bright and clean. Fine.
