The Annotated Chronicles is a joy to read. The tome comprises the original three books in the Dragonlance trilogy. The big three that started it all. They are Dragons of Autumn Twilight, Dragons of Winter Night, and Dragons of Spring Dawning. In my opinion these are some of the finest books that Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman ever wrote. I know I've read online that the authors considered these works their roughest, because they were their first. But I wore out one set of chronicles by just re-reading them over the many years. The characterization put into these novels are of the highest calibre. I know Margaret and Tracy put their hearts into these works. I lived, ate, and breathed Dragonlance for many years, I was that big of a fanboy. Dragons of Autumn Twilight tells the story of six companions meeting after an absense of five years. They split up searching for evidance of the divine. They return to meet each other changed, physically as we see in Raistlin, and emotionally. Pretty soon the friends are joined by others as they search for a ruined city while hearing rumours of war in the north. What I like about the annotations by the authors and developers of Dragonlance is seeing the insight into why something was done. I particularly like Tracy's comments about when Raistlin was injured by the Blue Crystal Staff. I also like Jeff Grubb's comments on the pantheon of gods in Krynn. This book is fun to read and I'll do so again. Pick it up to see what motivated the authors and their desire to create a living world to entertain and bring enjoyment.
