Excerpt from The Andrus Bindery: A History of the Shop, 1831-1839 This history gives an unusual picture of life in a bindery of one hundred years ago as it appeared to the younger employees. Edward Thomas Day, mentioned in Chapter II as a new apprentice, later became foreman of the edition bindery of Case, Lockwood 86 Company where he worked until his death. His son, Charles W. Day, learned his trade inthis latter bindery and he, too, worked there until he died. Charles Day presented to The Case, Lock wood 8: Brainard Company his, father's apprentice ship papers which are printed at the end of the his tory. It IS interesting to note that they are dated February 23, 1832, while the history says that he came to work on June 20, 1831. Probably he served a few months as errand boy before being formally indentured. This history has been printed in installments in the trade magazine Bookbinding.
