Bert Sterling, sheriff of Harlan County, becomes involved in solving the story behind the cross, and also finds that it was responsible for preventing a multimillion dollar bank robbery that was planned to steal monies placed in the bank by Eastern Kentucky's most notorious drug dealer, Pretty Boy Maggard.
