Apart from her father being away, and the 'townie' evacuees at school, her life is scarcely touched by the war. Soon, the whole area is out of bounds, as the Allied forces practise their landings for D-day, preparing to invade France. Although this is really a children's book, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It puts a human face on what some citizens of Great Britain went through as part of the Normandy invasion, and it's all done through the eyes of a young girl.
