Have not finished the book
It takes a while to get into his books. They are very dark and cover subjects that are equally dark. You should not try to speed read his books. You will miss something.

facts in fiction
This is a fictional account of an early attempt to track a serial killer by profiling. Mr. Carr consulted with many psychiatrists and criminologists to get the facts about the character right. He grew up in the neighborhoods where he places the action. I lived 45 years in a suburb of that area and know his details are right on the money. ... The story moves on quite quickly and he skillfully weaves real historical personages into his stories. He has obviously studied them as well, as his evocations fit well with biographies of these people. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the sequel, Angel of Darkness. Read this one first!
