Unable to make any real sense of his situation, he goes to Mother Fulati for advice. She knows what he needs to establish his roots in the Island, and pushes him in the right direction. While forming a vital new relationship he becomes embroiled in an adventure quite as heady as any of those of his childhood. In the process he meets up with an old adversary, Madrico, who has not lost his propensity for double dealing. As they develop the skills necessary to handle unexpected situations in Maridoland and Beldeena, Sonny and Gogo acquire some of the maturity they need for their rolls of authority in the archipelago.
