At first most of the lectures were given by friends and associates, many of them great figures from Europe and Asia. As their ranks thinned, perspectives and subjects varied. Cold War and Vietnam receded into history, but the underlying issues of development, human rights, the environment, arms control, all resisted the halfway measures of men and governments and in many respects intensified.
